Open Government Data Round Table

The Open Government Data Round Table strives to encourage a dialogue on the use of government data in a particular area. The aim is to develop the data offer taking into account the needs of the various environments concerned. This format of dialogue is coordinated by the Open Government Data office as part of the Federal Council’s “Open government data strategy in Switzerland for the period 2019 to 2023”.

The aim of the round table is to create the conditions to ensure that the publication of data is coordinated and adapted in line with demand. Firstly, for entities which use data this means establishing their needs such as improving existing datasets. Secondly, for data-providing bodies, this means knowing the needs and priorities of entities which use data and explaining the precise details of certain data. Finally, those present can create contacts to facilitate further exchanges in terms of data supply and demand. A meeting lasts around 3 hours and brings together around fifteen organisations that use and provide data.

OGD round table on gender quality in 2021

The topic of gender equality has been chosen as the theme for the first edition of the round table. This meeting that was organised by the Federal Statistical Office and the Federal Office for Gender Equality took place on Monday, 13 September 2021. This exchange helps to support the implementation of both the 2030 Gender Equality Strategy and the 2030 Agenda’s SDGs, especially goal no. 5 “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”. Indeed, solid data and reliable statistics, disaggregated by sex, are essential for any effective gender equality policy, both at national and international level.

The fields of research and the economy as well as non-governmental organisations, employers' associations, parliamentarians and trade unions were invited to this round table. They received a survey to complete before the meeting. The responses helped to finalise the programme and organise the discussions. Based on the results of the round table, the Confederation will examine possible measures to obtain data that are even better adapted to the needs of the entities using them.
