The data collection «City Statistics» (previously Urban Audit) provides information and reference measurements on various aspects of the living conditions in more than 900 European cities partner based on approximately 200 indicators covering three spatial levels: larger urban zones, core cities and neighbourhoods.
From 2009 - 2015 Switzerland conducted this project under the auspices of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) and the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE), together with its most populated cities. Between 2016 and 2019 City Statistics was conducted by the Federal Statistical Office, the Federal Office for Spatial Development, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the eight Swiss cities Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano, St. Gallen and Zurich. Since 2020, the Federal Housing Office (FHO) and the City of Winterthur are also partners of the project.
For the cities of Geneva and Basel, larger urban zone communes in the neighbouring countries are also included as the economic and social network extends beyond Swiss territory.
