Economically inactive persons

37% of women and 27% of men aged 15 and over are economically inactive persons, i.e. they are neither in employment nor unemployed and looking for work. Economically inactive persons are for the most part pensioners. Among women, homemakers are the second largest group; women in education and training are the third largest group. Persons in education are the second largest group among men and the number of male homemakers is negligible.

Most economically inactive women aged 15 to 64 are homemakers, followed by women in education and training and pensioners. Economically inactive men in this age group are mainly men in education and training and pensioners.
