Paid employment

Women's paid employment is different from men's in various respects, including their work-time percentage and occupational position. Moreover, while women's economic activity rate is lower than men's, their unemployment rate based on ILO definition is higher. The differences between women and men with respect to paid employment need to be considered in the broader context of the distribution of paid and unpaid work between the sexes. Some typical characteristics of female paid employment, such as part-time work, should be considered in the context of women's family situation, the type of household in which they live and, consequently, the amount of work they do at home, because women still do most of the housework.
