European Statistics Day on 20 October 2016 Swiss Statistics website presents its new look

Neuchâtel, 20.10.2016 (FSO) - The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) can present its new website www.statistics.admin.ch just in time for the European Statistics Day on 20 October. The new website has been completely redesigned and is clearer and easier to read. The entire website content can now be viewed on mobile devices and fits all screen sizes.

The new FSO website www.statistics.admin.ch is available from 17 October 2016. As well as a more modern appearance and revised content, the website's features are better adapted to the needs of today's users.

Facts and figures on the go

Statistics.admin.ch uses the possibilities of today's internet to meet the changing needs of its users, who increasingly use mobile devices to consult statistical information. The entire range of information is now available without restriction on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. Content is the same as the desktop version and can be shared any time on social media.

"It is our users who give real value added to statistics", says FSO Director-General, Georges-Simon Ulrich. "This is why it is so important for us to reach them with our high-quality statistical information via the channels used today."

Central access to statistical information in Switzerland

The FSO has entirely renewed its website's infrastructure so that interested citizens, the media, politics, the scientific and economic communities and other groups at home and abroad can continue to enjoy central access to all official statistics results in Switzerland.

The website contains thousands of pages, large parts of which can now be automatically updated using an optimised interface. In future, via a central platform (also providing machine-to-machine communication) authorised users will have access to FSO data and metadata that can now also be referenced more easily and quickly on the Confederation's open data platform to enhance the latest statistical data it has to offer.

Access to information: clearer, up-to-date and dynamic

The statistics.admin.ch home page receives over 15 million visits per year. More emphasis is given to current activities such as surveys, important results and key, new publications so as to speed up access to information.

In addition, the whole content structure has been streamlined, the presentation of content modernised with more visuals and less text and the site is now easier for search engines to find. . The new website replaces a solution conceived 15 years ago that no longer meets the needs of today's internet users.
