Turnover in the Swiss services sector declined by 11.0% in February 2024

02.04.2024 - Services turnover adjusted for working days fell by 9.7% in January 2024 compared with the same month last year. Wholesale trade was the main contributor to this development. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

The economic sector "Wholesale and retail trade" recorded a decline in turnover of 16.4% in January 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year and the economic sector "Transportation and storage" also reduced its turnover (-7.9%). In the economic sector "Accommodation and food service activities" (+2.6%), the figures went up in January 2024 compared with January 2023 and the "Information and communication" division also reported a positive result (+1.7%). The economic sector "Real estate activities" showed decreasing turnover figures (-6.3%), while the sector "Professional, scientific and technical activities" achieved an increase in turnover of 14.2%. Within this latter sector, turnover from "Management consultancy activities" recorded the largest increase (+25.6%). Finally, turnover in the economic sector of "Administrative and support service activities" grew (+3.9%), supported by growth in "Travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities" (+16.7%) and "Services to buildings and landscape activities" (+13.3%).
