Services turnover in December 2023 Swiss services sector recorded a decline of 6.3% in December 2023

Turnover in the Swiss services sector declined by 11.0% in February 2024

01.03.2024 - Services turnover adjusted for working days fell by 6.3% in December 2023 compared with the same month last year. Wholesale trade was the main contributor to this trend. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

The economic sector "Wholesale and retail trade" recorded a decline in turnover of 13.0% in December 2023 compared with the same month of the previous year and the economic sector "Transportation and storage" also reduced its turnover (-9.0%). In the economic sector "Accommodation and food service activities" (+9.1%), the figures went up in December 2023 compared with December 2022 and the "Information and communication" division also reported a positive result (+11.7%). The economic sector "Real estate activities" (+11.8%) as well as the sector "Professional, scientific and technical activities" (+12.8%) showed increasing turnover figures. Within the latter sector, the "Architectural and engineering activities" sector reported the highest sales growth (+19.0%). Finally, the turnover of the economic section "Administrative and support service activities" grew (+7.1%), with the "Travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities" sector contributing to this result with a high growth rate of 17.3%.
