Swiss services sector recorded a decline of 8.0% in March 2024

02.10.2023 - Services turnover adjusted for working day effects fell by 10.0% in July 2023 compared to the same month last year. Furthermore, the wholesale trade is decisively involved in this development. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

The economic sector "Wholesale and retail trade" recorded a decline in turnover of 14.9% in July compared to the same month of the previous year, and the economic sector "Transportation and storage" also reduced its turnover (-1.2 %). In the economic sector “Accommodation and food service activities" (+7.4%), the figures went up in July 2023 compared to July 2022, while the “Information and communication" division reported a decline of 0.6%. The economic sector “Real estate activities" showed increasing turnover figures (+3.0%), while the sector “Professional, scientific and technical activities" achieved an increase in turnover of 3.5%. Finally, the turnover of the economic section “Administrative and support service activities" grew (+0.9%), with the "Travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities" sector again showing a high growth rate (+16.6%).
