Social and Economic Conditions of Student Life (SSEE)

The survey on the social and economic situation of students (SSEE) provides data on the living and study conditions of students at Swiss higher education institutions. The quantitative survey is based on an online questionnaire. It has been successfully carried out five times (in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2016 and 2020) and will be repeated in 2024.

The survey population is comprised of all students registered at a Swiss higher education institution (university, federal institutes of technology, university of applied sciences and university of teacher education) with a view to obtaining a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree or another qualification. This base population is clearly defined and identifiable thanks to the files of the Swiss University Information System (SIUS).

Further information about the survey can be found in the fact sheet.
