In a majority of couple households the household chores are mainly accomplished by the woman, especially when children live in the household. However, depending on the age of the youngest child, partners share housework more or less equally. When the child is between 0 and 12, couples share more likely domestic duties, than if the child is between 13 and 24.
These findings are linked to the age of the partners, because joint running of the household is more common among younger couples than among aged ones. This is also reflected in the trend being observed over time: both partners sharing domestic work is becoming more and more common. And factors like tertiary education and the fact that both partners have full-time or part-time jobs also promote the sharing of domestic work.
