Holidays

Employed persons who participate in the Swiss Labour Force Survey (SLFS) indicate the number of weeks of holiday per year to which they are entitled in the scope of their employment contract (employees) or the number of weeks of holiday per year usually taken (self-employed persons).

The number of weeks of holiday according to the contract varies with age: in 2022, full-time employees aged 20 to 49 had an average of 5.0 weeks of holiday, compared with 5.4 weeks for 15-19 year-olds and 5.6 weeks for those aged 50-64.

According to the Swiss Code of Obligations, employees are entitled to five weeks of holiday at least until they reach the age of 21, and four weeks after that. Furthermore, many companies and collective labour agreements give employees aged 50 or over five or more weeks of holiday.

Self-employed persons had an average of 3.3 weeks of holiday in 2022.
