Within the national accounts, tourism is recorded in a separate accounts system. This is called the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA). The main purpose is to capture the direct economic effects of this cross-sectional industry in Switzerland. The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) publishes the TSA every three years. In addition, annual indicators of the TSA are published.
Tourism is of great importance in many regions. In order to additionally record the cantonal development of this cross-sectional activity, the FSO, in cooperation with the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), publishes the annual indicators of the TSA at the cantonal level. These measure the monetary aspects of tourism coherently with the concepts and definitions of the national accounts system.
