Tourism Satellite Account

Tourism is one of the most important branches of the Swiss economy and has a large influence on employment, production and value added. In particular, international tourism has been - and still is - a major contributor to the development of Switzerland's mountain regions. But the diversity of tourism production makes it difficult to measure the multitude of effects that tourism has on the economy and to present them statistically. Tourism as such is not included in the statistical nomenclatures and the national accounts. For this reason, the required data had to be extracted from the tourism-related components of many different industries and merged into a separate account, the "Tourism Satellite Account".
