SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
« Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow. […]»
Swiss target 13.3: People, authorities, enterprises, decision-makers, professionals and consumers have adequate information and agency to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
Significance of the indicator
The indicator shows the proportion of the population that believes that global warming due to climate change is very dangerous or rather dangerous for human beings and the environment. Through their consumption, industrialised countries are contributing to climate change. A population that is well-informed and aware of the impact of its actions is more likely to behave in a more environmentally friendly way. An increase in this percentage is, therefore, a step towards sustainable development.
Help for interpretation
It is a perception survey based on a sample, meaning that values are subject to a margin of error.
International comparability
This indicator cannot be compared at international level.

Methodology
The indicator shows the proportion of the population aged 15 to 74 that believes that global warming due to climate change is very dangerous or rather dangerous for human beings and the environment.
These data come from the Omnibus surveys conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) in 2011, 2015 and 2019. While telephone surveys were conducted in 2011 and 2015, participation in the 2019 survey was possible either by telephone or online. Approximately 90% of respondents participated online. This change in the method results in a break in the data series for part of the results.
