Teaching is the UTE area with the highest costs. UTE costs totalled CHF 680 millions.
At the UTE, the main expenditure is on basic education (64%), which as is the case in the UAE, is practice-based. The costs of applied development and research range between 5% and 20% of all costs depending on the UTE. At 14%, however, the average cost is relatively low.
The cost indicator considered here is calculated as the ratio of costs for basic education to the number of students in basic education (headcount). The graph shows the costs per student in 2010 compared with 2019. Figures below the diagonal line equate to a decrease in costs per student. At the UAS the value of the indicator decreased almost for all departments. This was also the case for the UTE.
