The size of a building is defined by the number of storeys and dwellings.
In Switzerland, single-family houses represent more than half of all residential buildings, which is also reflected in the stock's structure by number of storeys. 88% of single family houses and 77% of all residential buildings have 2 or 3 storeys. Among multi-family houses and residential buildings with ancillary use, more than two-thirds (71%) have at least 3 levels.
Number of storeys
More than 90% of residential buildings have fewer than 5 storeys.
Number of rooms in the building
At national level, more than three-quarter of buildings comprise 1 or 2 dwellings. However, this number varies greatly from one region to another.
