Population change and vital statistics in 2023: provisional figures

Switzerland's permanent resident population grew in 2023. On 31 December, it was just over 8 960 800. Immigration rose sharply owing mainly to the inclusion of people from Ukraine. The declining fertility observed in 2022 persisted into 2023, and there was a reduction in the number of deaths in comparison with 2022. There was also a decline in the number of marriages and divorces.
