The aim of data linkage is to obtain information from existing data, avoid duplication, reduce costs to a minimum and benefit from synergies.
By making use of the corresponding identification numbers in the different datasets linkage makes it possible to obtain a great deal of statistical information using existing datasets. The guarantee of data protection must have the highest priority in this context. Data linkage is therefore subject to strict rules with regard to data protection and data security (cf. MJP 2016-2019).
Data linkage is thus a basic aspect of statistical production in the FSO. Linkage makes it possible to enhance information. On the one hand it enables new statistical analysis and on the other fewer people need to be consulted directly.
