Construction Industry Production, Orders and Turnover Statistics Rising secondary sector production in Switzerland in 2nd quarter 2017

Secondary sector production in Switzerland declined by 0.6% in 4th quarter 2023

Neuchâtel, 24.08.2017 (FSO) - Secondary sector production rose by 3.4% in 2nd quarter 2017 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover rose by 2.5%. This is the strongest increase in production since the first quarter 2013.

In comparison with the previous year, industrial production grew in April by 5.7%, it registered a decline in May of 3.9%, then rose again in June (+7.6%). For the whole of 2nd quarter 2017, production increased by 2.9% in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier.

Construction production increased by 6.1% in 2nd quarter 2017 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Production rose by 3.9% in building, civil engineering also registered an increase (+10.4%). Lastly, specialised construction activities registered an increase of 6.0% in their production.

Turnover

Industrial turnover in April rose by 4.3% in comparison with the previous year, it fell in May (-4.6%) and recovered in June (+6.8%). For the whole of 2nd quarter 2017 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, turnover registered an increase of 1.9%.

Construction turnover rose by 5.2% in 2nd quarter 2017 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover rose by 4.5% in building, civil engineering registered an increase of 10.5%, specialised construction activities an increase of 4.1%.
