Production in Switzerland's secondary sector fell by 3.3% in 1st quarter 2024
16.02.2024 - In the 4th quarter of 2023, secondary sector production in Switzerland fell by 0.6% compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Turnover rose by 2.7%. This is shown by provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
In comparison with the previous year industrial production grew in October by 0.8%, it registered a decline in November of 1.2%, as well as in December of 0.3%. For the whole of the 4th quarter 2023 production declined by 0.4% in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier.
Construction production declined by 1.8% in 4th quarter 2023 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Production declined by 9.5% in building, civil engineering also registered a decline (-6.8%). Lastly, specialised construction activities registered an increase of 2.5% in their production.
Turnover
Industrial turnover in October rose by 3.1% in comparison with the previous year, and in November (+3.0%) and in December (+4.2%). For the whole of the 4th quarter 2023 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, turnover registered an increase of 3.4%.
Construction turnover fell by 0.5% in 4th quarter 2023 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover fell by 9.5% in building, Civil engineering registered a decline of 4.6%, specialised construction activities an increase of 4.7%.
