Social assistance recipients in 2019
In 2019, 271 400 persons in Switzerland received social assistance in the form of a financial benefit on at least one occasion. Although the number of social assistance recipients fell further compared with the previous year, the social assistance rate remained unchanged at 3.2%. Half of social assistance recipients live in families with children. Single-parent families are at greater risk of being dependent on social assistance.
