Population change and Vital Statistics in 2023: provisional results Sustained demographic growth in Switzerland in 2023

04.04.2024 - Switzerland's permanent resident population grew in 2023. On 31 December, it was just over 8 960 800. Immigration rose sharply owing mainly to the inclusion of people from Ukraine. The declining fertility observed in 2022 persisted into 2023, and there was a reduction in the number of deaths in comparison with 2022. There was also a decline in the number of marriages and divorces. These are some of the provisional annual results for 2023 from the Population and Household Statistics and Vital Statistics of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
