Production, orders and turnover statistics of the secondary sector in the 1st quarter 2024 Production in Switzerland's secondary sector fell by 3.3% in 1st quarter 2024

17.05.2024 - Secondary sector production declined 3.3% in 1st quarter 2024 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover fell by 0.8%. This is the biggest decline since the 3rd quarter 2020. This is shown by provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

In comparison with the previous year industrial production declined in January by 2.1%, in February by 1.9%, and in March by 3.8%. For the whole of 1st quarter 2024 production declined by 3.1% in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier.

Construction production declined by 1.8% in 1st quarter 2024 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Production declined by 3.4% in building, civil engineering also registered a decline (-3.5%). Lastly, specialised construction activities registered a decline of 0.8% in their production.

Turnover

Industrial turnover in January rose by 1.5% in comparison with the previous year, they fell in February (-0.6%) as well as in March (-2.7%). For the whole of 1st quarter 2024 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, turnover registered a decline of 0.6%.

Construction turnover fell by 0.9% in 1st quarter 2024 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover fell by 3.3% in building, Civil engineering registered a decline of 2.2%, specialised construction activities an increase of 0.9%.
