Revision policy

The Federal Statistical Office's revision policy

In order to provide up-to-date figures as early as possible, provisional values, which are subject to certain uncertainties, are initially published in some statistical areas. As soon as the data situation has been completed over time, the provisional results are replaced by results of higher quality (and thus based on more up-to-date data) within the framework of so-called revisions. Furthermore, revisions of statistics may also be undertaken due to changes in the methodology or concept.

The aim of the revision policy is to render the revision practice of the Federal Statistical Office transparent and understandable for users of official statistics. The revision policy describes general rules for revisions. The FSO recommends that all actors in Swiss public statistics also apply these revision principles.
