Retail trade turnover in November 2022 Retail trade turnover rose by 1.3% in November 2022 due to price increases

Swiss retail trade turnover fell by 0.4% in February 2024

06.01.2023 - Turnover adjusted for sales days and holidays rose in the retail sector by 1.3% in nominal terms in November 2022 compared with the same month of the previous year. Seasonally adjusted, nominal turnover rose by 1.6% compared with the previous month. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

Real turnover adjusted for sales days and holidays fell in the retail sector by 1.3% in November 2022 compared with the previous year. Real growth takes inflation into consideration. Compared with the previous month, real, seasonally adjusted retail trade turnover registered an increase of 1.5%. 

Retail sector excluding service stations

Adjusted for sales days and holidays, the retail sector excluding service stations showed a 0.9% increase in nominal turnover in November 2022 compared with November 2021 (in real terms -1.6%). Retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco registered a decline in nominal turnover of 0.2% (in real terms -3.7%), whereas the non-food sector registered a nominal plus of 1.8% (in real terms -0.3%).

Excluding service stations, the retail sector showed a seasonally adjusted increase in nominal turnover of 1.6% compared with the previous month (in real terms +1.5%). Retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco registered a plus of 0.7% (in real terms +0.6%). The non-food sector showed a plus of 2.3% (in real terms +2.8%).
