Decline in expenditure on social benefits to combat poverty in 2022

Neuchâtel, 22 March 2018 (FSO) - In 2016 expenditure on social assistance in the narrow sense rose in nominal terms by 3.9% to CHF 2.7 billion. In 2015 the increase was 2.1% and in 2014 it was 5.6%. As in the previous year, the growth in expenditure is partly explained by the increasing number of social assistance recipients. The average expenditure per recipient in 2016 was CHF 9961 -an increase of 1.0%. These are the latest findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
