Gross domestic product by canton in 2021 Overall economic recovery in 2021

Revised version (27.10.2023): The information in the lead on the number of cantons with GDP growth above 10% was adjusted and supplemented to include the canton of Nidwalden.

27.10.2023 - 2021 saw post-COVID-19 recovery in Switzerland and in the cantons. Measured by gross domestic product (GDP) at previous year's prices, the economy improved in all cantons. Six cantons saw their economies grow by 10% or more: Neuchâtel (15.2%), Jura (14.7%), Ticino (13.2%), Schaffhausen (12.9%), Nidwalden (10,1%) and Vaud (10.0%). Growth was spread across the country and around ten cantons had growth ranging from 5% to 10%. These figures are taken from the latest estimates of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
