Civic life

Although participation in federal votes is reserved for Swiss nationals, participation in political life more broadly is in theory possible for everyone living permanently in Switzerland. The indicators relating to confidence in Switzerland's state institutions and authorities, and on equality of opportunity between the Swiss and foreign nationals provide information on the integration of different population groups.

Help for interpretation: On the one hand, the population without a migration background is much more likely to participate actively in an association or group than the population without such a background, regardless of the generation. On the other, the first generation has more confidence in the political system and the police than the second or subsequent generations. Finally, second or subsequent generations are more in favour of equal opportunities than the first generation and the population without a migration background.
