Education

The indicators reflecting educational paths and educational attainment help us understand the skills of people living in Switzerland. Education is not only crucial in order to access the labour market, but also impacts a person’s opportunities to participate in society. Regardless of where it was completed, education should be considered in terms of its structural aspect, in other words with regard to educational attainment and general qualifications and competencies.

Help for interpretation: The population with a migration background, particularly the first generation, is over-represented among those with no post-compulsory education. They also leave the education system more often without obtaining a lower secondary qualification. In terms of holders of tertiary-level qualifications, the first generation fares particularly well.
