Experimental statistics: Influence of the pandemic on the household budget
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a considerable impact on the household budget through the prescribed limitations on daily life and the economy. To make this visible, the results of the current Household Budget Survey (from January 2020) are shown by quarter for the first time and compared with the corresponding quarters of the reference years. For example, the average spending on meals in restaurants, cafés and bars fell sharply in the second quarter of 2020, while consumer expenditure on food increased.
