Swiss hotel sector generated a record 41 million overnight stays in 2023

Neuchâtel, 05.12.2016 (FSO) - The hotel sector registered 20 million overnight stays in Switzerland during the summer season 2016 (May to October). This represents a slight decrease of 0.2% (-33,000 overnight stays) compared with the same period a year earlier. Foreign demand registered 11.2 million overnight stays, i.e. a decline of 1.3% (-144,000). Swiss visitors, for their part, posted 8.8 million overnight stays, which corresponds to a rise of 1.3% (+111,000). These are the provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

During the month of October 2016, 2.8 million overnight stays were generated, corresponding to an increase of 2.7% (+74,000) compared with October 2015.
