Nursing home and home care services in 2017 Home care services on the rise, in contrast to nursing home stays
In 2021, no increase in nursing home personnel for first time since 2006
In 2017, almost 350 000 people, of whom 73% were aged 65 and over, made use of assistance and home care services. The home care services provided nearly 16 million hours of home care and more than 6 million hours of assistance. In the same year, around 149 000 people stayed in a nursing home; 15% of them for a short stay. These are some of the findings from the Statistics on Home Care Services and the Statistics on Nursing Homes from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
