16.12.2019 - In 2017, 66 971 people died in Switzerland, 3% more than in the previous year. The most common causes were cardiovascular diseases, which accounted for 31.4% of all deaths and cancer, which accounted for 25.8%. Other common causes of death accounted for less than 10% each of all deaths: dementia 9.8%, respiratory diseases 6.9% and external causes such as accidents, suicide and other rare external influences 5.6%.
