Gross domestic product per canton and region

The gross domestic product provides information on regional and cantonal economic activity in Switzerland.

  • Gross domestic product enables the economic growth of each region and canton to be measured.
  • Gross value added (GVA) provides information on the economic structure of the cantons.
  • GDP per capita enables measurement of creation of wealth at individual level.

Regional and cantonal GDP are published yearly at the end of October for the year t-2 (e.g. publication of 2014 data in October 2016).

Due to data availability, the series starts in 2008. The FSO does not intend to carry out an estimate or a retrospective extrapolation of years prior to this date.
