City Statistics is an international project run by Eurostat, the European Unions statistical office. Its aim is to provide, for European cities and their functional urban areas, information based on some 200 indicators covering most aspects related to standard of living, such as demographics, housing, health, the labour market, education and environment.
Data collected in Switzerland within the scope of the City Statistics are analysed at the level of cities and their agglomerations and also transferred to Eurostat. In this way, Switzerland is taking part in this international project.
Data from over 900 towns and cities taking part in the City Statistics can be accessed from Eurostat’s database. Their availability varies by country and survey year as well as by subject matter. Provision of these statistics is purely voluntary as there is no legislation governing their collection.
