With a total of 522 558 offences under the Swiss Criminal Code (SCC), the offences recorded by the police in 2023 increased by 14.0% compared to the previous year. This increase was mainly due to property offences (+17.6%), which rose for the second year in a row.
In 2022, 11 927 sentences and measures have been implemented. 71.6% of persons have been incarcerated, 24.7% provided a community service and 3.7% have served their sentence under electronic surveillance.
In 2022 the number of juvenile convictions amounts to 20'797 cases. With 103'156 entries in the criminal register in 2022, the number of convictions increased compared with the previous year (+3,3%).
In 2022, CHF 5.8 million was paid out to crime victims by the compensation authorities and the victim consultation centres provided consultations in 46 542 cases.
