An activity is classed as unpaid work if it is a productive activity that has no remuneration and could in theory be carried out by a third person for payment: domestic and family workload, honorary activities and work for voluntary organisations (formal voluntary work) and helping friends and family, who do not live in the same household(informal voluntary work). The indicators for unpaid work provide information on the time spent on various types of unpaid work as well as the participation rates of the resident population aged 15 and over in voluntary work. At macro-economic level, the volume of hours for unpaid work per year are calculated and their monetary value estimated for the household production satellite account.
