SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
« […] Sustainable economic growth will require societies to create the conditions that allow people to have quality jobs that stimulate the economy while not harming the environment. Job opportunities and decent working conditions are also required for the whole working age population. »

Significance of the indicator
The indicator shows unemployed persons as defined by the International Labour Organization (ILO) as a proportion of the working population aged between 15 and 24. High youth unemployment reflects difficulty integrating in the labour market and potential job insecurity in this population. This phenomenon also denotes a lack of intergenerational equity. A reduction in youth unemployment is therefore a step towards sustainable development.
International comparability
This indicator is calculated according to the ILO’s international recommendations and is therefore internationally comparable.
