MONET 2030: Smoking rate

SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

Swiss target 3.a: Switzerland ratifies the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

Significance of the indicator
The indicator shows the share of the population aged 15 and over that state that they smoke. Smoking is harmful to health and can therefore have a negative impact on the quality of life. It is a risk factor for cardiovascular as well as chronic respiratory diseases and various types of cancer. A reduction in the smoking rate is therefore a step towards sustainable development.

Help for interpretation
It is a sample survey, meaning that values are subject to a margin of error.

International comparability
This indicator cannot be compared at international level.
