MONET 2030: Per capita gross domestic product

SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

Swiss target 8.1: The economy is growing sustainably through increased labour productivity, greater resilience and the growth of resource productivity.

Significance of the indicator
The indicator shows the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. This reflects the total value of the economic activities that a country performs in a calendar year. The GDP is thus an indicator for the performance of the economy. In line with sustainable development, growth of this performance is desirable from an economic perspective. An increase in the GDP per capita is pursued.

Help for interpretation
The GDP per capita is generally used as an indicator of a country's standard of living. No conclusions may be drawn on the distribution of income and wealth, life quality and effects of the economic activities on the environment.

International comparability
This indicator can be compared at international level.
