This topic area focuses on the transition from working life to retirement. Key to this is the protection of employed and retired persons by means of the old age provision system. This system is comprised of the old age and survivors' insurance (OASI), occupational pension plans (BV/PP) and the third (3a) pillar (private pensions) and is known as the «three-pillar system».
Key indicators for the topic area «Access to the old age provision system»
In the indicator system on old age provision, a person is considered as taking early retirement if she is already receiving a benefit from the old age provision system before having reached legal retirement age. In 2019, 54% were in this situation one year before the normal retirement age (61% of men and 46% of women). If the self-assessment of persons is evaluated irrespective of whether they receive benefits or whether they are employed, only 37% of people of the same age group said that they had taken early retirement (43% of men and 32% of women). For people up to 5 years after legal retirement age, this concerns people who had previously taken early retirement. According to their self-made declarations, 37% of these took early retirement (41% of men and 33% of women).
Almost all pensioners receive OASI benefits. 76% of pensioners receive benefits from an occupational pension fund and almost 40% receive benefits from the pillar 3a. In the indicator system on old age provision, pensioners are defined as persons who have already reached legal retirement age and who receive benefits from the old age provision system. |
