Gross domestic product by canton in 2017 Strong growth in gross domestic product in the cantons of Basel, Zurich and Nidwalden in 2017
In 2017, Switzerland’s economic growth continued its momentum of 2016. At cantonal level, Basel-Stadt (+7.0%) benefited from strong growth in the manufacturing industry. Basel-Landschaft (+3.5%) and Zurich (+3.7%) reported a marked rise in nonfinancial services. The canton of Nidwalden saw broad growth of its gross domestic product (+4.1%). These results are taken from initial estimates of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
