In order for the classifications of economic activities to correspond to reality (creation, decline and disappearance of activities over time), it is necessary to update them. Furthermore, with the aim of ensuring the international comparability of statistics, the associated revision processes are carried out in a concerted and coordinated manner between the various user countries.
In 2019, the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) has launched the revision of NACE. At the same time, the FSO has also decided to launch a revision process of the NOGA. In March 2021, the United Nations Statistical Office (UNSD) formalized the process of revising the
International Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities
(ISIC).
In May 2022, the new NACE structure (NACE Rev. 2.1) was validated by the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC). Work on the explanatory notes on NACE and ISIC is currently still in progress. This will be completed by July 2023.
Following the validation of NACE Rev. 2.1, the Service of nomenclatures of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office has compiled a preliminary version of the new NOGA structure (NOGA 2025). It was submitted to the various revision stakeholders in September 2022 in order to receive their comments.
The revised version is now available below. It is subject to consultation until September. Organizations interested in giving their opinions can take part in the consultation by contacting the FSO's Nomenclatures Service.
