2022: Social assistance rate fell to 2.9%

18.12.2018 - 278 345 people received economic social assistance in 2017. This means that 3.3% of the resident population was supported by social benefits at least once during the year. Over the past few years, the social assistance rate has increased disproportionately for persons between the ages of 50 and 64, which is due in particular to the lower likelihood of a quick departure from the social welfare system for this age group. These are some of the findings from the current Swiss Social Assistance Statistics conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
