New yearbook: Federal statistics experts present a portrait of Switzerland

Neuchâtel, 28.03.2017 (FSO) - The 2017 editions of the Statistical Yearbook of Switzerland and Statistical Data on Switzerland have just been published. These two publications from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) provide a clear overview of all economic and social aspects of life in Switzerland. The Yearbook is a comprehensive work of reference with texts, diagrams and tables; the Statistical Data on Switzerland is free of charge and provides a summary of the most important statistical information.

This is the 124th edition of the Yearbook making it the FSO's longest-running publication. 21 topic-based chapters give an insight into many aspects of life in our country, and the overview section of each chapter puts the data into a wider context. A single result or a specific time series can be looked up in the tables section whereas the methodology section provides information on the surveys behind the data and definitions of specialist terms. By combining these two sections within their topical structure, cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses can be made of our country at a given point in time and important developments in the economy and society can be identified. The Yearbook is beautifully designed and its topic-based structure and wide variety of texts, graphics, maps and tables make it available to a wide readership.

All the chapters are written in both German and French and for Italian and English-speaking readers the Yearbook provides a summary of the main findings.

Map supplement on the topic of business statistics

This year the traditional map supplement to the Yearbook is dedicated to the topic of Business Statistics" and has 20 pages containing up-to-date information on the structure of the Swiss economy at different regional levels (partly available at commune level): establishments by economic sector, number of jobs as well as the number of persons employed in full-time equivalents by different areas of economic activity.

Statistical Data - the FSO's most widely-read publication

Like the Yearbook, the Statistical Data (which is free of charge) is also divided into the 21 topics of official statistics. Short texts, simple tables and numerous graphics invite the reader to browse through 52 colourful pages of statistical information. A large table presents an overview of Switzerland's main statistical key figures in comparison with nine EU countries. It is the only FSO publication in five languages: in addition to German, French and Italian it is also available in English and Rhaeto-Romance.
