Farm structure census 2023

In 2023, there were 47 719 farms in Switzerland, 1.3% fewer than one year earlier. Organic farming is still in vogue: 7896 or 16.5% of all farms were organic, farming almost a fifth of the utilised agricultural area. Trends in livestock numbers were varied: While the number of dairy cows (-2.0%) and pigs (-3.5%) declined, poultry numbers rose slightly by 0.3%.
