Retail trade turnover in May 2022 Swiss retail trade turnover remains unchanged in May 2022

Swiss retail trade turnover rose in January 2024 by 0.6%

30.06.2022 - Nominal retail trade turnover adjusted for sales days and holidays remained stable in May 2022 compared with the same month of the previous year with a rate of change of 0.0%. Seasonally adjusted, nominal turnover rose by 1.6% compared with the previous month. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

Real turnover adjusted for sales days and holidays fell in the retail sector by 1.6% in May 2022 compared with the previous year. Real growth takes inflation into consideration. Compared with the previous month, real, seasonally adjusted retail trade turnover registered an increase of 1.1%.

Retail sector excluding service stations

Adjusted for sales days and holidays, the retail sector excluding service stations showed a 1.4% decrease in nominal turnover in May 2022 compared with May 2021 (in real terms –2.7%). Retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco registered a decline in nominal turnover of 5.3% (in real terms –6.5%), whereas the non-food sector registered a nominal plus of 2.4% (in real terms +0.8%).

Excluding service stations, the retail sector showed a seasonally adjusted increase in nominal turnover of 1.4% compared with the previous month (in real terms +0.9%). Retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco registered a plus of 0.6% (in real terms 0.0%). The non-food sector showed a plus of 2.5% (in real terms +1.9%).
