2022: Social assistance rate fell to 2.9%

22.12.2020 - In 2019, 271 400 persons in Switzerland received social assistance in the form of a financial benefit on at least one occasion. Although the number of social assistance recipients fell further compared with the previous year, the social assistance rate remained unchanged at 3.2%. Half of social assistance recipients live in families with children. Single-parent families are at greater risk of being dependent on social assistance. These are some of the findings from the current Swiss Social Assistance Statistics conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
