Producer and Import Price Index in May 2024 Producer and Import Price Index fell in May by 0.3%

13.06.2024 - The Producer and Import Price Index fell in May 2024 by 0.3% compared with the previous month, reaching 107.2 points (December 2020 = 100). Lower prices were observed for pharmaceutical products and petroleum products in particular. Electricity became more expensive for large consumers, however. Compared with May 2023, prices for the whole range of domestic and imported products fell by 1.8%. These are the results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

The fall in the Producer Price Index over the previous month was primarily due to a fall in pharmaceutical product and petroleum product prices. By contrast, electricity (for large-scale consumers), plastic products, basic metals and semi-finished metal products, organic products of the chemical industry and plastics in primary forms recorded higher prices.

Price increases were recorded compared with April 2024 in the Import Price Index, particularly for non-ferrous metals and products made therefrom. Rising prices were also seen for plastics in primary forms, rubber and plastic products, non-metallic mineral products, paper and paper products, pharmaceutical preparations and cocoa and chocolate products. In contrast, the price of petroleum products as well as petroleum and natural gas fell, as did prices for basic pharmaceutical products and organic products of the chemical industry.
