Production, orders and turnover statistics of the secondary sector in the 2nd quarter 2022 Secondary sector production in Switzerland grew by 4.1% in the 2nd quarter 2022

Secondary sector production in Switzerland declined by 0.6% in 4th quarter 2023

19.08.2022 - Secondary sector production rose by 4.1% in 2nd quarter 2022 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover increased by 9.5%, with around half of this due to price increases. The positive growth rates in production and turnover have been uninterrupted since the 1st quarter 2021. This is shown by provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

In comparison with the previous year, industrial production grew in April by 0.5%, in May by 4.6%, and in June by 10.3%. For the whole of 2nd quarter 2022, production increased by 5.1% in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier.

Construction production declined by 1.3% in 2nd quarter 2022 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Production rose by 0.4% in building, civil engineering in contrast registered a decline (–6.8%). Lastly, specialised construction activities registered a decline of 1.5% in their production.

Turnover

Industrial turnover in April rose by 6.9% in comparison with the previous year, and in May (+9.4%) and in June (+13.8%). For the whole of 2nd quarter 2022 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, turnover registered an increase of 10.1%.

Construction turnover rose by 7.0% in 2nd quarter 2022 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover rose by 9.3% in building, Civil engineering registered a decline of 1.4%, specialised construction activities an increase of 6.4%.
